He studied Oriental Medicine for nine years, obtaining Diplomas in Shiatsu, Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. In practice for over ten years, he now works in Bristol. He has undertaken clinical placements in several Chinese hospitals, including in oncology and gynaecology clinics. He works for the British Acupuncture Council as a Continuous Professional Development Co-ordinator. He has had many articles published, including in the European Journal of Oriental Medicine, the International Journal of Healing and Caring, the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine News, and Positive Health magazine. He is working on a book about the role of the spirit in illness, which examines and compares Christian and Taoist views of health.

Preface to workbook

This book is primarily designed as a reference book for students. It represents only a broad overview of Chinese Medicine and is in no way complete. The information can only be used as part of a formal training in Chinese Medicine, and can not be properly understood or used in isolation from this.

The book is a synthesis distilled from many sources including books, published papers, mentors and fellow practitioners. However, it mostly stems from my own first-hand observations over more than ten years of clinical practice and lecturing. Over this time I have seen the profound changes Chinese medicine can bring to people's lives. I hope that students can use this knowledge to help their patients too.
